PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the power consumption of a switch element in each pixel and to simplify the constitution of the driving circuit for a data electrode by varying a stress voltage effective value according to subfield periods. SOLUTION: One field period 101 is divided equally into four subfield periods 102. A control electrode as an electrode for applying a stress voltage Vst is connected to respective pixels as well as a scanning electrode. Therefore, respective pixels Vst can be varied interlocking with the voltage applied to the scanning electrode and even in an address period 103, the voltage can be applied continuously to a luminance modulating element. Namely, the maximum period (duty ratio) wherein the luminance modulating element of each pixel can be turned on in the one field period 101 can be almost one irrelevantly to an address speed. Further, each pixel is switched only by making an on/off choice about whether the pixel is made to illuminate or not. |
