PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide hollow polyester fiber capable of giving lightweight and high-grade stretch fabrics having high color developability with unconventional pearl-toned milky feeling and excellent in thermal insulation, see-through proofness and UV-cutting effect, high in yarn manufacturing process stability, causing no fluffs and wale streaks, etc. when blended with textured yarns, crimped yarns or elastic fibers such as of polyurethane for making warp knitted fabrics, and to provide such lightweight and high-grade stretch fabrics. SOLUTION: The hollow polyester fiber is formed of a polyester copolymerized with 0.1-6 mol% of a metal salt of 5-sulfoisophthalic acid and 0.1-5 wt.% of a polyethylene glycol 200-6,000 in weight-average molecular weight, containing 30 ppm or less (including 0 ppm) of antimony on atom basis and containing 1-2 wt.% of titanium oxide particles. The hollow polyester fiber is characterized by being cationic dye-dyeable, having hollows 15-50% in hollow percentage on the fiber section, 90-95 in color tone L-value and 36-50% in residual elongation percentage.
