<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology by which the abnormality of a nozzle can speedily, surely and automatically inspected in an inkjet method printer. <P>SOLUTION: In this printer, a specified test pattern is recorded on a printing paper, and the test pattern is read by a scanner. The scanner reads the test pattern by a resolution which is lower than the resolution of a recording head. Therefore, the test pattern can automatically and speedily be read. Also, the reading data is interpolation-processed, and the abnormality of a nozzle is judged based on the reading data after the interpolation process. Thus, the abnormality of the nozzle can be judged while reproducing the positions and the intervals of lines which are recorded on the printing paper with a high precision.
