PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new polypeptide having diagnostic advantage or therapeutic advantage and a nucleic acid molecule encoding the polypeptide.

SOLUTION: The invention provides a separated nucleic acid molecule encoding a new secreted epithelial colon stromal-1 (Secs-1) polypeptide and containing a nucleotide sequence selected from a specific nucleotide sequence containing a DNA insert, its complement and a nucleotide sequence hybridizing to the above sequence under a moderately or highly stringent condition. The expression of Secs-1 polypeptide has a correlation to the hematopoietic stem cell maintaining performance of a stromal cell and is possible to be usable for the diagnosis and treatment of related diseases.
