PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To collect toner having a normal polarity and toner having a polarity different from the normal polarity from the surface of an intermediate transfer body, and to prevent the lowering of cleaning ability by the influence of potential by electrostatic charge. SOLUTION: DC voltage is applied to a cleaning roll 78 so as to electrostatically collect residual toner on the intermediate transfer body 68, which has not been transferred to recording paper. Voltage obtained by superposing DC voltage and AC voltage is applied to a cleaning brush 80 so as to electrostatically collect the residual toner on the intermediate transfer body. The amount of charge with which the cleaning roll 78 is charged is controlled by applying voltage obtained by superposing the voltage having a reverse phase to an AC component detected with the cleaning roll 78 on the DC voltage to the cleaning roll 78 so that the cleaning roll 78 may not be charged with the AC component by the AC component with which the cleaning brush 80 is charged, because the cleaning roll 78 and the cleaning brush 80 are arranged adjacently.
