PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily adjust the tilt of a carriage without generating a phase difference between the teeth of driving pulleys on the front and rear sides. SOLUTION: An image-reading device is provided with a tilt-adjusting means which gives tension to one ends of a first and second driving belts 50 and 51 to move a second carriage 7, and consequently makes the end surface of the carriage 7 contact a reference surface 1A orthogonally crossing the direction of the movement to adjust a tilt; and a correcting means 61 which changes the position of a first or second belt-fixing bracket 62 to move the first or second driving belt 50 or 51, when the tilt is not accurately adjusted by the tilt-adjusting means 58, and consequently adjusts the tilt of the second carriage 7.
