<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact heat storage type hot water supply apparatus requiring only a small installation space and obtaining hot water supply performance equivalent to a conventional one. <P>SOLUTION: The heat storage type hot water supply apparatus is composed of a heat pump unit 4 circulating and heating water; a radiating heat exchanger 5 through which hot and cold water heated by the heat pump unit 4 circulates; a heat storage can body 3 having the radiating heat exchanger 5 inward and filled with a heat storage material 2; and a hot water supply heat exchanger 9 heating supplied water by the heat radiation of the heat storage material 2 in the heat storage can body 3 to supply hot water. An auxiliary tank 14 is further provided for obtaining heat from hot and cold water after heat radiation in the radiating heat exchanger 5. In case there is residual heat too much to be stored in the heat storage material although it depends on the residual quantity of hot water at the completion of hot water supply, hot water after passing through the radiating heat exchanger 5 passes through an auxiliary heat exchanger 15 in the auxiliary tank 14 to heat stored hot and cold water in the auxiliary tank 14 by the residual heat.
