PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily discriminate whether a digital material transmitted from a transmission side is encrypted or not. SOLUTION: A reception section 71 receives unencrypted or encrypted AV data. Metadata 34 including the LE Key31-D used for the encryption are superimposed on the encrypted AV data. A metadata extraction section 72 discriminates whether the data received by the reception section 71 is encrypted or not on the basis of the presence and the contents of the metadata 34 and produces an Encrypted input signal 102 denoting a result of the discrimination. Through the use of the encrypted input signal 102, a state exhibition section 74 exhibits a state of the presence of the encryption applied to the data received by the reception section 71 and a switching section 75 switches input for controlling whether or not the decode processing by a decode section 73 is to be passed through.
