An exhaust gas clean-up system for an internal combustion engine comprising a fuel inlet valve (14) for feeding a fuel in the form of a microparticulated droplet into an exhaust gas passage of the engine, an oxidation catalyst (11) and an NO_x storage reduction catalyst (12) provided therein in this order. The oxidation catalyst (11) has platinum (Pt) and palladium (Pd) supported thereon as noble metals, wherein the molar ratio of platinum (Pt) relative to the sum total of platinum (Pt) and palladium (Pd) supported on the oxidation catalyst (11) is adjusted within the range from about 50% to about 80%.
