A mobile terminal is provided to perform a function for a compass in an area where a user cannot be aware of a direction so that a user can easily recognize a position and a shape of the moon. A storage unit(24) stores shape information of the moon according to calendar information. A GPS receiving unit(26) receives current position coordinates from a GPS satellite. A display unit(17) displays the shape information of the moon. A controller(22) controls to read the shape information of the moon according to the provided calendar information from the storage unit(24) and display position information of the moon calculated based on the position coordinates on the display unit(17). The controller sets a southward direction as a reference position in the mobile terminal and controls to display the shape information of the moon on the display unit(17).
