PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feed mechanism, wherein a pressure contact release mechanism is arranged at the approximate axial center of a pressure contact roller in such a manner that both axial ends of the pressure contact roller have uniform pressure contact with a paper feed roller, thus actualizing highly precise carriage of recording paper with no skewing. SOLUTION: A first paper feed means P1 has a first paper feed roller 4 and a first pressure contact roller 5 capable of pressure contact with the first paper feed roller 4. The recording paper 2 is put in pressure contact between the first paper feed roller 4 and the first pressure contact roller 5 and carried to the downstream side with the rotation of the first paper feed roller 4. To the first pressure contact roller 5, the pressure contact release mechanism P3 is connected for releasing pressure contact with the first paper feed roller 4.
