<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which has a narrow horizontal view angle with simple constitution, has a wide vertical view angle, and further has less deterioration in luminance in a front direction. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device comprises a liquid crystal cell comprising a pair of oppositely arranged substrates one of which has an electrode and a specified liquid crystal layer interposed between the substrates, and polarizing plates arranged outside the liquid crystal cell respectively. Optical anisotropic layers are provided on surfaces of the polarizing plates which are close to the liquid crystal cell. The liquid crystal display device has the liquid crystal cell comprising the pair of oppositely arranged substrates one of which has the electrode and the specified liquid crystal layer interposed between the substrates and also has the polarizing plates arranged outside the liquid crystal cell respectively, and one polarizing plate having an optical anisotropic layer is arranged further outside. The optical anisotropic layers are provided on the surfaces of the polarizing plates which are close to the liquid crystal cell, and made of hybrid-aligned compounds, an alignment control direction being nearly parallel to an axis of absorption of one of polarizing films. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
