Stable litter (8), e.g. contaminated straw and/or sawdust, is filled into a conveyor (10) hopper (7), from which is carried to a shaft (14). This leads to a comminuter (17). After size-reduction, it is compressed to briquettes (43), which can be handled. Liquid expressed is collected in a tank. Compression takes place twice, the first stage comprising pre-compression, the second comprising briquetting. It is precompressed in a tube (37) where it is carried forward by further litter pushed in behind it. The construction is further detailed.
