A retractable closure (10) for securing an opening, such as a door or window against unauthorised entry or harsh weather, comprises a plurality of stiff elongate strips (12) arranged in a row, the strips being substantially parallel to one another; locating means (16, 42, 44) at both ends of each strip for moving the strips laterally between open and closed positions in the opening and for positively locating the strips ( 12) laterally relatively to one another at least when the strips substantially span the opening; means (48, 12.1 ) for rotating the strips about their longitudinal axes between open and closed positions; and means (26) for locking adjacent strips to one another when in the closed position.
