PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a casting roll having high cooling capability on its outer peripheral surface. SOLUTION: In a roll body 12, a longitudinal direction cooling passage 14 is penetrated from the abutting portion of a side weir 11 at the roll edge surface to the abutting portion of the side weir 11 at the other roll edge surface to secure the contacting size T4 of the side weir 11 to the roll body 12 and also, the interval T3 between the longitudinal direction cooling passage 14 and the outer peripheral surface of the roll body 12, is formed as a shrinking constitution as possible and the cooling water W is passed through the surface layer part of the roll body 12. A cylindrical plug 16 closed at the base end part, is fitted to the end part of the longitudinal direction cooling passage 14 and radial direction cooling passages 15 are positioned near the end surfaces of the roll in the roll body 12, and bored so that the cooling water is made to flow from the inner peripheral surface of the roll toward the longitudinal direction cooling passage 14, and a hole 17 for communicating the radial direction cooling passage 15 into the longitudinal direction cooling passage 14 is bored in the plug 16.
