PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for efficiently backing up data accumulated in a primary storage medium to a secondary storage medium while considering the type of a tertiary storage medium for finally storing the data. SOLUTION: When data accumulated in the primary storage medium such as a removable flash memory is backed up to the secondary storage medium such as a hard disk, a folder having an attribute of capacity is preliminarily generated in the secondary storage medium in accordance with the capacity of each kind of the tertiary storage medium for finally storing the data accumulated in the primary storage medium such as CD-R, CD-RW, DVD±R, or DVD±RW, and the backup is performed while calculating the capacity of the tertiary storage medium. Respective folders to be generated can be managed in a folder information table provided within the device by assigning various attributes thereto. Even if a free space is already present in the folder generated in the secondary storage medium, the backup can be locked so as not to additionally record the data to this folder.
