PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the motion of a fishing rod tip and/or reel action on a fish bite to be detected in a state of noncontact with the fishing rod and fishline, thus stabilizing a bite detection unlike the conventional case of detection making use of fishline motion. SOLUTION: A bite detector (A) is provided, comprising an infrared sensor (2) for detecting in a noncontact state the temperature of the spool (80) as a mobile element of a reel (8) attached to a fishing rod (7), an LED (light-emitting diode) illuminating a spot to detect the temperature thereof, a control element (3) for detecting the temperature change at the spot, and a transmitter for informing when the reel (8) acts; wherein the infrared sensor (2) is equipped with a Fresnel lens functioning to impart directivity.
