<p>Preparation of 1-(2,2,6-trimethyl cyclohexyl)-hexan-3-ol compound (A) with at least 30 wt.% of the corresponding trans-isomers comprises catalytically hydrogenating a trimethyl compound (D), in the presence of a rhodium-catalyst. Preparation of 1-(2,2,6-trimethyl cyclohexyl)-hexan-3-ol of formula (A) with at least 30 wt.% of the corresponding trans-isomers comprises catalytically hydrogenating a trimethyl compound of formula (D) (where the broken lines indicate double bonds) in the presence of a rhodium-catalyst. An independent claim is included for a method for the preparation of a perfume composition comprising manufacturing, optionally isolating or purifying (A) from the product mixture and mixing a sensory effective quantity of (A) with other perfuming substances.
