<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal recording material featuring excellent color developing properties, less background fogging to dry heat and wet heat in an undeveloped color part (an unused part) and outstanding shelf stability of a developed color image. <P>SOLUTION: The thermal recording material comprises a thermal color developing layer containing a normally colorless or pale-color color developing compound and a developing compound which makes the color developing compound thermally develop a color, formed on a support, wherein the thermal color developing layer contains one of some kinds of bisphenol-based compounds and a compound shown by formula (4) as a developing compound.
