<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for detecting a layer-like flat object, more concretely, a sheet-like recording medium in a non-contact manner. <P>SOLUTION: A transmitter and a receiver are separated from each other in a galvanic manner and are mechanically put in a disconnection condition to improve detection efficiency.
