The equipment has a housing, a holder, a steel cable with a hook at the end, a ferromagnetic wheel, plates with permanent magnets, a support for fixation to a wall or scaffold, a gear and pinion arrangement, and a crank. In use, the person to be rescued wears a harness and secures the hook of the harness to the steel cable hook. The person to be rescued can escape from the structure e.g. house, destroyed by fire or earthquake.
