PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner permitting easy attaching/detaching of a filter to be rotated by a motor. SOLUTION: The vacuum cleaner comprises a dust collection unit chamber 22 disposed on the way of a suction air passage from a dust inlet from which dust is sucked to a suction opening 24A of an electric blower 24 of a cleaner body 11, a dust collection unit 50 detachably mounted in the dust collection unit chamber 22, a driving gear to be rotated by the motor M, and a gear 107 disposed in a pleated filter body 100 of the dust collection unit 50. The direction of attaching/detaching of the dust collection unit 50 is set in the direction orthogonally crossing the axis of rotation of the gear 107, and the driving gear is set on the opposite side from the direction of mounting of the dust collection unit 50 to the axis of rotation of the gear 107 in the dust collection unit chamber 22.
