Polyesters (PES) based on condensation products of terephthalic acid and/or its derivatives (TPA) with dihydric alcohols, in which the alcohols comprise (a) 99.5-40 mol% ethylene glycol (EG), propane-1,3-diol and/or butane-1,4-diol and (b) 0.5-60 mol% alkane-1,2-diol other than EG, and the polyester (PES) has a melting point (DIN EN ISO 53765) of 145-275[deg]C. Independent claims are included for (1) formed products made from PES as above, especially fibres or filaments (2) a method for the production of PES by reacting TPA with (a) and (b) in the above quantities at elevated temperature, preferably at 180-290 [deg]C .
