<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for compressing low temperature gas so that the amount of gas supplied to a following device can be flexibly controlled by a simple method with allowable energetic efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: A piping device 5 for supplying gas 4 to the suction side 6 of a compressor 7 and supplying the compressed gas 4 to the following device, comprises a by-pass 9 through which the compressed gas 4 can be returned to the suction side 6 of the compressor 7. An expander 12 for recooling the gas 4 flowing in the by-pass 9 is disposed in the by-pass 9.
