PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tape cartridge (an information recording medium) capable of assigning tape data to a tape reel without fail, and displaying regardless of difference in a shape for winding the magnetic tape to the tape reel and also of attaining traceability for the magnetic tape accurately. SOLUTION: A unique indication 6 for indicating the tape data unique to a magnetic tapes 4, such as manufacturing history data and characteristic data, to a tape reel 3 housed inside a main body case 1. The unique indication 6 is the two-dimensional code which can be read optically by a display reader and is arranged on an external surface of a bottom wall of a reel boss 3a. Because the unique indication 6 is directly arranged on the tape reel 3 to which the magnetic tape 4 is wound, even when the tape reel 3 is taken out from the main body case 1, the tape data for the magnetic tape 4 can be identified without fail.
