<p>A punching die for manufacturing an exhaust gas purifier holding seal member, which can easily cut out the holding seal member without damaging the holding seal member when cutting out a holding seal member from an inorganic fiber mat with a predetermined thickness by the punching process, and a method for manufacturing the holding seal member by the punching die are provided. As a punching die(11) for punching a sheet of an inorganic fiber mat to manufacture a holding seal member, comprising a substrate(12), and punching blades(13) which are supported by the substrate and punch the inorganic fiber mat to cut out the holding seal member, the punching die comprises a plurality of elastic members(14) that are adhered to the substrate and are elastically deformable. The elastic members are made of a foam material. The foam material is made of at least one selected from the group consisting of polyurethane foam, polyester foam, melamine resin foam, phenolic resin foam, polyethylene foam, polypropylene foam, polystyrene foam, natural rubber foam, synthetic rubber foam, and elastomer foam. The punching blades include connection end-forming blades(lateral face blades)(18) and side-forming blades(longitudinal face blades)(19). The lateral face blades and the longitudinal face blades are welded together at a plurality of joints(13c).</p> |
