<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a communication device for a vehicle which achieves technology for judging whether or not an inexpensive portable device that does not depend on LF band electric wave that needs an expensive antenna is inside or outside the vehicle by imparting reader function of a high frequency band RF tag to the portable device through non-contact communication that uses a high frequency band. <P>SOLUTION: The communication device for the vehicle is provided with at least one ID transmitter 2 which is mounted on the vehicle and transmits a transmitter ID of its own in response to receipt of electric wave, an on-vehicle equipment 1 mounted on the vehicle, the portable device 3 for receiving the transmitter ID which the ID transmitter 2 transmits by emitting electric wave to the ID transmitter 2, and an ID communication means for transmitting the transmitter ID from the portable device 3 to the on-vehicle equipment 1.
