<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent phase difference compensation of an incident beam from being insufficient due to the diffraction phenomenon of the incident beam occurring in a liquid crystal cell by improving viewing angle characteristics of a polarizing plate, in a liquid crystal display device comprising the liquid crystal cell disposed between a pair of polarizing plates. <P>SOLUTION: A polarization azimuth angle compensation layer 31 makes a plane of polarization of a beam obliquely incident on an incident side polarizing plate 30 be in the same bearing as the plane of polarization of a beam incident in the normal direction. A phase difference compensation layer 41 is disposed on the side closer to a liquid crystal layer 34 than a microlens array 40 which diffracts a portion of the incident beam, and compensates the phase difference of the liquid crystal layer 34. A polarization azimuth angle compensation layer 36 prevents light leakage by making polarization planes of incident beams of respective bearings and respective polar angles be parallel to the absorption axis of an emission side polarizing plate 37 and heightens an extinction ratio even when the diffraction phenomenon is caused by the microlens array 40 and a TFT wiring pattern 46. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
