A mobile terminal, its call connection method, and a traffic control method of a base station are provided to reduce the load of a base station because a mobile terminal does not attempt a call connection continuously before a call connection, and effectively and smoothly operate a traffic channel and a voice channel. A wireless unit(18) transmits a call request message to a base station, and if there is no available traffic channel in the base station, the wireless unit(18) receives a PACA(Priority Access and Channel Assignment) message including an estimated call available time. A timer(30) calculates an expected time by comparing the estimated call available time and the current time. A mode conversion unit(32) converts a mobile terminal into a slotted mode before the estimated time, and when the estimated time lapses, the mode conversion unit(32) changes the mobile terminal into a non-slotted mode. When the estimated time lapses, a controller(12) controls the wireless unit(18) to re-configure a call request message and transmits a call re-request. |
