PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a write power calibrating apparatus and a method associated with the same in order to solve various problems in the conventional technology.

SOLUTION: This calibration method of defining the optimum write power comprises the steps of: writing a plurality of first data sets on a DVD by a plurality of different write powers, respectively; performing parity code decode procedures to a plurality of second data sets read from the DVD; defining a plurality of byte error numbers detected based on the parity codes of the second data sets; and defining the optimum write power based on the plurality of byte error numbers corresponding to the second data sets.
