PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubbing processing method which makes a display defect of a liquid crystal display panel unobvious even when a crack etc. exists on a rubbing roller, and to provide a method for manufacturing the liquid crystal display panel using the rubbing processing method. SOLUTION: The rubbing processing method comprises forming an alignment layer to be rubbed on one principal face of one pair of substrates of the liquid crystal display panel and performing rubbing processing by bringing the rubbing roller into contact with the surface of the alignment layer and relatively moving the respective substrates and the rubbing roller. The rubbing processing method makes a relative advance direction A of the rubbing roller substantially parallel to an advance direction X of the rubbing roller to at least one substrate 10 of the pair of the substrates and performs rubbing processing so as to have a slight angleθ(θ≠0°) between a right angle direction Z and the relative advance direction A of the rubbing roller on a rotary shaft 17 of the rubbing roller 13.
