A chair having an automatically adjustable backrest is provided to make a user sit on the chair in a right position, thus lessening fatigue and protecting the spine of the user. The chair having an automatically adjustable backrest includes a support(4), a vertical rack gear(9), a slide cylinder(10) which is formed at an upper circumference of the support(4), an operation body(8) fixed to the slide cylinder(10), an elastic repulsion spring(21), a rotating shaft(25) placed to horizontally pass through the operation body(8), a pinion gear(26) formed at the center of the rotating shaft(25), a rotation supporting member, an arc-shaped spur gear(23), a horizontal rack gear(30) which moves with being engaged with the arc-shaped spur gear(23), a movable base(31) which slides front and rear by the movement of the horizontal rack gear(30), a backrest which moves to the front together with the horizontal rack gear(30) and the movable base(31) engaged with the pinion gear(26) which rotates by the descent of the operation body(8), a base frame(28) for slide-moving the base(31), and a seat(2).
