The apparatus measures an amount of cleaning product which is fed over a measurement path. An ultrasonic transmitter and receiver are used to provide a measure of cycle time, amplitude or phase dependant on the flow rate of the medium. This enables the type or quantity of the medium to be determined. An annular, circular or elliptical hollow cylindrical chamber (11) is disposed ahead of the path (5). The path expands perpendicular to the chamber. The cylinder is formed by fitting a cap (13) in an extension of the path and welding it to the edge.
