PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power unit for a vehicle capable of reducing driving force of an electric motor when driving a movable sheave onto a top side. SOLUTION: This power unit for the vehicle is provided with a sheave side gear 61 mounted on the movable sheave 49 of a primary sheave 40 and a motor side gear 62 meshing with the sheave side gear 61 to transmit rotation of the electric motor 60 to the sheave side gear 61. The motor side gear 62 and the sheave side gear 61 are composed of helical gears, respectively. Thrust force for energizing the movable sheave 49 onto the top side is generated when moving the sheave side gear 61 in the axial direction by rotation of the motor side gear 62.
