<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent conveying obstruction of a recording medium without lowering the throughput of image formation in continuous feeding of the recording medium. <P>SOLUTION: When paper feeding is instructed, a kind of paper receiving the instruction of paper feeding is recognized based on the kind of the paper designated by a user at that time and friction coefficient corresponding to the paper is taken out from a table to which the kind of the paper of RAM 103 and friction coefficient are made relevant. Subsequently, a distance Lm corresponding to the taken out friction coefficient is determined and substituted from a predetermined equation to determine a time T. The paper stands-by until the time T is passed from the time when a leading end of the preceding paper.
