PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display element capable of forming a desired gap without lowering the aperture ratio of the liquid crystal display element and preventing water from infiltrating into the liquid crystal display element from its outside. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display element formed by charging liquid crystal in the gap formed by sticking a pair of substrates, on which an alignment layer is formed, through a sealing agent, at least one side of the pair of substrates has a pole portion formed of an inorganic material in a sealing agent area and a tapered wall portion formed of an inorganic material higher than the pole portion at an outer periphery of the pole portion and when the gap is formed by sticking the pair of substrates with the sealing agent, the gap is formed of the pole portion.
