Low-noise in-sink dishwasher

A dish-cleaning appliance (10) comprising a sink having a bowl (20) defining a wash chamber (30) with an open top for providing access to the wash chamber (30). A liquid recirculation system is provided for spraying liquid onto the dish rack (40) to effect the cleaning of any dishes along the rack (40). The lid (32) is mounted to the sink and is movable to selectively cover the open top of the bowl (20). The lid (32) includes a sound absorber and a sound dampener for reducing the transfer of sound from the wash chamber (30) through the lid (32).
