A display device and a control method thereof are provided to improve user efficiency, and maximize compatibility of a video signal between the display device and a multimedia device by enabling a user to select or input EDID(Extended Display ID Data) information of the display device through a UI(User Interface). A memory(30) stores the EDID information and EDID modification information of the display device. A menu generator(60) generates a menu including more than one item. A display part(50) displays the generated menu. A controller(20) updates the EDID information based on the EDID modification information matched with the item selected in a user input part(10). The EDID modification information is formed by detail timing modification information matched with detail timing data among the EDID information of the display device. The controller updates the detail timing information included in the EDID information with the detail timing modification information, calculates and updates checksum data of the updated EDID information to the checksum data of the EDID information.
