A DVD(Digital Versatile Disk) file system for recording and reproducing of an HD(High Definition) stream is provided to record and reproduce the HD stream on and from a DVD medium in real time so that file navigation information is accessed in a sector unit, thus a faster recording and playback function is performed. A local file area(10) consists of a disk information area(11) from which information for DVD medium recognition is provided, and a program information area(12) from which program detailed information is provided. A file area(20) consists of an index files area(21) from which frame positional information of a video stream is provided within a file for trick play, a stream files area(22) in which a substantial A/V(Audio Video) stream is stored, and a thumbnail files area(23) from which a periodic still screen of a program is provided and visual information on a stream is provided.
