PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve detection (judgment) accuracy better than a conventional misfire detection device. SOLUTION: A misfire detection device for an internal combustion engine is provided with a crank angle detection means detecting crank angle of the internal combustion engine, a rotation energy quantity operation means, a misfire determination means for determining misfire in the internal combustion engine by comparing fluctuation quantity of the rotation energy quantity calculated by the rotation energy quantity operation means and misfire determination value for determining misfire, and a memory device storing misfire determination value in a map beforehand as function with engine rotation speed and intake air quantity.
