PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new polythiophene derivative that is one of conductive polymers and is suitably used for chemically bonding a conductive polymer to the metal surface of a metal surface substrate so as to simply and more firmly fix the conductive polymer on the metal surface. SOLUTION: The polythiophene derivative is represented by general formula (I) [R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each a hydrogen atom or a 1-22C saturated hydrocarbon group but are each not a hydrogen atom at the same time; R is a group represented by general formula (II) (R<SP>3</SP>is a hydrocarbon group; X is Se or S) or represented by general formula (III): R<SP>4</SP>-CO-X- (R<SP>4</SP>is a hydrocarbon group; X is Se or S); n is a number of≥10].
