PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical film which contributes to the thinning and can prevent light leakage when black is displayed while preventing thermal unevenness, and to provide an image display device using the optical film. SOLUTION: The optical film includes: a polarizer; a first optical compensation layer having a refractive index characteristic of nx>ny=nz; and a second optical compensation layer having a refractive index characteristic of nx>ny>nz, sequentially formed in this order. The angle between the absorption axis of a polarizer and the slow axis of the first optical compensation layer is in the range of +17°to +27°or -17°to -27°, the angle between the absorption axis of the polarizer and the slow axis of the second optical compensation layer is in the range of +85°to +95°and the Nz coefficient of the second optical compensation layer is 1.2≤Nz≤2.
