The predetermined block diagram (1) having horizontally interconnected blocks (3) for exchanging data is prepared in its model plane (2) relating to the predetermined abstraction stage. Another model plane (5) comprising a block diagram (6) and separated from the predetermined plane relating to the predetermined abstraction stage is prepared. The overall block diagram (7) is formed by combining the predetermined block diagram and the other block diagram, and the model planes are connected by vertical data transfer unit (8) for vertical data exchange. An independent claim is also included for a modeling unit.
