An audio information device (1) of the portable type, comprising a keypad (2), suitable audio output means (4, 5), an electric power supply (9), and at least one memory unit. The device (1) comprises a processor (10), which controls the at least one memory unit, optionally of the removable type, a screen (13) for displaying the stored information, at least one interface for connection to a computer. The stored information is in compressed form in the unit (12) and can be selected for playback by means of the keypad (2) or other selection systems by the user.
