A portable terminal and a method for displaying Chinese texts therein are provided to display inputted Chinese letters in various types according to a user's selection by alternating a Chinese character input method or a pinyin input method in displaying Chinese texts. A portable terminal consists of a radio communication part(21), a keypad(23), a memory(24), a control part(25), and a display part(26). The radio communication part(21) processes transmission and reception for Chinese short messages. The keypad(23) has keys to input number/text information and various function keys. The memory(24) stores programs to shift from Chinese character mode to pinyin mode or from pinyin mode to Chinese character mode according to Chinese text input/display methods. The control part(25) controls an overall operation to convert and display Chinese characters, inputted according to the Chinese character mode, into pinyin letters, based on the pinyin mode, or to convert and display pinyin letters into Chinese characters. The display part(26) displays Chinese letters, being inputted, and received Chinese short messages. |
