An automatic control device of an optical disk player and a method thereof are provided to obtain a step value for automatic control in a product manufacturing process to store the obtained step value, and to apply the stored value in case that the optical disk player is used, thereby decreasing an unnecessary controlling operation caused by hardware deflection. A pickup unit(102) outputs an RF(Radio Frequency) signal picked up from an optical disk(100). An RF signal processor(108) processes the RF signal of the pickup unit(102), and outputs the processed RF signal. A memory(118) stores a step value for automatic control. A controller(116) sets the step value by comparing a level of the RF signal outputted from the processor(108) with a set target signal level, and controls an operation of controlling the level of the RF signal by using the set step value.
