The operating mechanism for adjusting the angle position of a mirror element of an exterior rear-view mirror of a motor vehicle has a drive train (2) which via an input section is coupled to the output shaft of an electric motor and which by an output section is coupled to a mirror adjustment element (12). A worm (3) and a worm wheel (4) are accommodated in the drive train and intermesh for RPM reduction, and wherein the worm has a multiple screw thread. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a mirror housing of an exterior rear-view mirror for a motor vehicle, including the aforesaid operating mechanism; and (2) a modular system for mounting of an operating mechanism for an exterior rear-view mirror of a motor vehicle.
