<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a headlight device for a vehicle capable of executing swivel action by accurately determining the actual proceeding state of the vehicle regardless of specification of the vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: In the headlight device for the vehicle, when forward rolling or stopping of both left and right wheels 8L, 8R is detected by wheel speed sensors 18L, 18R, it is determined as the advancement state and the swivel action is allowed. In the case other than it, namely, when both left and right wheels 8L, 8R are backwardly rotated and when one wheel 8L or 8R of the left and right wheels is backwardly rotated, it is determined as the non-advancement state of the vehicle and the swivel action is forbidden. Therefore, since it is determined that the vehicle is in the advancement state or in the non-advancement state using information in a rotation direction of the wheel obtained from the vehicle, the actual proceeding state of the vehicle is accurately determined regardless of the specification of the vehicle such as a system of a mounted transmission and propriety of execution of the swivel action can be determined.
