[PROBLEMS] To provide a display device and method capable of correctly extracting a predetermined character string from text data and displaying it in a peculiar format which can be easily distinguished. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] Tag extraction means (100) extracts a format setting tag from text data. Tag saving means (101) stores the extracted tag together with the position information in the text data, in tag storage means (13) and removes the tag. Next, peculiar display character string extraction means (102) extracts a character string to be displayed by using a peculiar format from the text data after saving the tag. Peculiar format tag write-in means (103) writes the format setting tag in accordance with the peculiar format in the text data. Furthermore, tag reset means (104) references the storage means (13) and writes in the format setting tag. Display means (105) displays the text data.
