PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system for transmitting or receiving image data, or the like through a channel by a simple operation. SOLUTION: The communication system comprises a telephone 11A, electronic equipment 13A, and a communication control unit 12A for mediating the communication between the telephone or the electronic equipment, and an opposite party telephone or opposite party electronic equipment via a communication network 20. The communication control unit 12A identifies whether it has received a connection request from the electronic equipment 13A when forming the channel with an opposite party side telephone 11B through the communication network 20 on the basis of a call request from the telephone 11A, and changes the channel from the telephone 11A to the electronic equipment 13A when it determines that it has received the connection request. The electronic equipment has a means for transmitting or receiving data according to a user's input operation, when receiving notification to the effect that the connection has been changed from the communication control unit 12A.
